About Us
In early 2009, Josh Shuman was working as a cabinetmaker when his brother Grant suggested he use his skills to make a guitar. Both avid musicians, Josh and Grant had been feeling dissatisfied with the guitars available on the market. The brothers wanted to see if they could create a hand crafted, electric guitar with powerful, high-quality sound that could hold it’s own against any high-end, factory made guitar on the market.
It took time, patience and determination to get it right, but by the summer of 2009, Josh built what would be the prototype for the Shuman electric guitar. Hand crafted from traditional maple and cherry tone woods, the solid body instrument was outfitted with a pair of DiMarzio humbuckers, which were originally designed for Eric Johnson, who noted their clarity, particularly when distorted or overdriven. The result was a one of a kind design with a clear, present sound, capable of several tonal variations.
Inspired by the break through, Josh continued to make more guitars as fast as he could, tweaking and improving the original model. Grant sought out the best in electronics and consulted on design and by 2011 the foundation was laid for the Shuman Guitar Co.
Shuman guitars have been praised by musicians and audiofiles for their quality in the studio and on stage. They also appeal to craft guitar aficionados and discerning collectors of rare instruments.
